Beware the Insurance Scammers

Today I received a phone call from a company called Accident Assured regarding a motor accident I had recently. Fair enough you might say, but I've never heard of this Liverpool-based company before, nor have I had a motor accident.

So what's going on? Well recently I've had some phishing SMS messages regarding an insurance claim - which I didn't reply to - and now I've had this phonecall.

...

I explained I hadn't had an accident. The woman on the other end of the line said "I'm sorry we've been given the wrong information" (very unconvincingly). I then asked the name of the company again. She confirmed "Accident Assured". I then asked for the address of the company and she hung up the line.

A quick search reveals the answer to be:

Accident Assured Ltd
Unit 15
Ashcroft Business Centre
Knowsley
Liverpool
Merseyside L33 7TU

The Companies House registration number is: 7087351

Clearly a bunch of crooks. So I'm just looking which is the best government body to send this information, trading standards perhaps or OFT?

You need to report this to the Claims managemnet council and Ken clarke in the Ministry of Justice. It breaches regulations that are in place

I received a phone call from them at 1pm today!! They said they was phoning on behalf of the 3rd parties insurance regarding an accident I had in the last 18 months. They said they had £1800 for me & wanted my car make & model, registration number & insurance details. Alarm bells sounded & when I questioned him, he got defensive!! I ended the call & have informed my insurance company, funny enough the lady I spoke to had the same phone call last week. What was scary, was he had my full name, telephone number & address!!!!

I just got a call from them saying they were following up on an accident i had in the last 18 months. She rushed through the name so I got her to repeat it. I haven't had an accident and as she'd told me she was working with my insurance company, I asked which one as I usually change every year. She sounded very frustrated and told me "never mind, we're just not communicating."
    Damn straight we're not!

Just had a call from Accident Assured, asking for me by name - stating I'd had an accident in the past 2 years - and they were working alongside my insurance company - 'not to my knowledge' I responded. The lady replied with 'could it have been anyone else on your policy?' so i asked where the information had come from, at which point she hung up the phone straight away.

I was contacted yesterday and today by Accident Assured about an accident 2 years ago I am worried that they have so much personal information and their methods used to extract information warning bells ringing now. What they upto and who are they?? I'm feeling that I have given them info and feeling a little stupid now at what the outcome might be any suggestions.

My husband has had several calls today on his mobile asking for me. On asking whose calling or if a message could be taken, they hung up. On last call this evening he managed to get the name Sam at Accident assured, again hung up when i was not available.

I just had the same call!!
Scouse lass, confidently telling me about an accident I'd had in the last 18 months. I had not had an accident so asked for more information. They seem to be trying their luck as she told me I had been involved in an accident and that I was reported not at fault. I asked for more information so she told me I was driving a Rover. I do not own a Rover and told her as much. This was probably too much for her as she snapped "I probably need to speak to another Gareth" before hanging up!
    Grrr!!

Here you go if you want to make them squirm you can speak to them directly here: 01515218283

If enough of us call and give them a grilling then they may start to think about the way they do business. Also they have been disolved as a company according to companies house. Interesting.

I had the same call today - an accident I have had in last 18 months, car I don't own etc etc.

Strange thing is that the call was to my work mobile and came a couple of hours after booking parking at Liverpool airport via Easyjet and filling my contact number online (I very rarely provide my work mobile number in this way and never get any spam calls).

    Co-incidence ? I think not.

Thanks all of you for your replies. It certainly seems this rogue company is on a phising expedition. Perhaps it is time I contact Trading Standards over the issue.

I have just received a call from "Accident Assured" too. After the girl had suggested that I had been involved in an accident I asked her "how did you get my number?" her inspired response was "well wouldn't you like to know?" my entirely reasonable response was "yes, I would like to know, this is why I asked" she replied "well tough" and put the phone down. I was heartbroken, we seemed to be getting on so well. I would like to know how they obtained my number.

I have just had this call and infact had one a couple of weeks ago as well. I had apparently had a 'bump' 18 months ago...(which I have not had) They would not give me the make and model of car, as it would be against confidentiality!!! I said in that case I am certainly not giving you any further info!! She slammed the phone down...Both calls were on my personal mobile...
When i spoke to the lady today and told her I am not interested, once again the phone was slammed down on me!!!
Someone must find out who these people are...before a naive person does give them the info that are wanting!!!

Oh my goddness I have had these people phone me Scouse girl called Maggie apparently?? I am Scottish and live in Scotland so anyway she called unknown number on my mobile and asked to speak to me using my name, after a few seconds of her giving me the reading on how they are working on behalf of my insurance company she stopped and said "wait a minute are you scottish?" I replied "yep" She said "oh for F**k sake" and slammed phone down. So whatever they are doing it must be something that they cannot do in Scotland?? Strange I hope they get caught!!

I had a call from these people advising they work with all the major insurers (more like scam all the major insurers) and wanted to know if it was correct if I had been involved in an accident in the last 12 months. I asked why did she think that? She replied was it correct that someone in the house had been involved in an accident. Again i asked what made her think that? She said it was on her database? When I asked what database, she promptly hung up.

Yep I've had two calls to my company mobile phone from these people in as many days. When I asked where they got the number from they said it was on their database, I told them in no uncertain terms to take it off but they just hung up. Their number came up as blocked on my iPhone so if I get another call like it I'm just going to blow a whistle very loudly as only friends customers and work colleagues should have my number.

I have been so stupid I had a call from accident assured today 2 times and give them my car reg details as I have been in a crash in October and just thought my insurance sold my details because I hadn't claimed what do you think I should do ??
